Hey, we’re Katrina & Cain — the faces behind Hapnin Empty Nesters 👋
We’ve been travelling Australia full-time since August 2022, chasing adventures, finding incredible camps and sharing the REAL side of life on the road.
But our story is about much more than travel. It’s about making the most of life, saying yes to adventure and living by the motto that started it all…

Where It All Started
Camping has always been part of our lives. We both grew up camping, so it’s probably no surprise that it became something we loved doing together too — in fact, Cain even proposed while we were camping! ❤️
Over the years, we spent countless weekends and holidays exploring with our boys — and the more remote the destination, the better. We’ve crossed the Simpson Desert, explored the Kimberley four times, tackled the Gunbarrel Highway and Cape York, and travelled through plenty of the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Like many campers, we started with a tent, quickly upgraded to a camper and spent years travelling that way. It wasn’t until we made the decision to leave our old life behind and travel Australia full-time that we finally bought our first caravan.
So while Hapnin Empty Nesters officially hit the road full-time in 2022, the adventure really started long before that.

Four years of full-time travel has given us more incredible memories than we ever imagined.
Tasmania was a huge highlight — it felt like it had all the best parts of Australia packed into one incredible place.
We’ve also loved the freedom to go where we want, stay a little longer when we find somewhere special, and discover some truly amazing free camps along the way.
We’ve spent plenty of time chasing lighthouses and waterfalls too — two things we never seem to get tired of finding.
We’ve ticked off some pretty special bucket-list moments, including standing at the southernmost points of both mainland Australia and Tasmania, cruising the Murray River on a paddle steamer, and soaking in the artesian baths at Charlotte Plains.
But as amazing as the places have been, one of the biggest highlights has been the people. The fellow travellers we’ve met along the way, the friendships we’ve made and the people we now call friends have become such a huge part of this journey.
As we head into our fifth year on the road, that sense of freedom, adventure and connection is still what we love most about this lifestyle.
Where We Are Now
Life on the road has taken an unexpected detour. Right now, our travels have slowed while Cain waits for a heart transplant — something we definitely didn’t imagine would be part of our fifth year.
For now, we’re making the most of what we can do, squeezing in little adventures when we can, continuing to share our story on YouTube and staying connected with the incredible community that has followed us along the way.
This certainly isn’t the chapter we expected, but it’s reminded us exactly why we started all of this in the first place.
